The bicycle; a vehicle for positive change

I recently read a great article ‘Bicycle as a vehicle of global change’ which discusses the brilliant work of World Bicycle Relief , an organisation that ‘builds and distributes specially-designed, locally assembled, rugged bicycles’ to rural areas and developing countries. The bicycle is seen as a ‘tool for development’ giving disadvantaged communities access to transport, employment, education and healthcare. I think it is amazing how the humble bicycle can have such a positive impact.

The year of the bicycle

I have always loved bicycles (as have most designers). I not only love their design but also enjoy cycling myself. Inspired by the World Bicycle Relief and in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the bicycle I have created a series of designs and illustrations. All of the designs celebrate how the bicycle is a tool to bring people together, a way of mobilising people and a vehicle for change.
